¿Qué es Shag Around?

A festival created by and for Collegiate Shag communities in Spain.

As a traveling, non-profit event, we aim to enrich local communities while fostering relationships between scenes in different cities.

Although the festival is designed to strengthen the connection between the different Shag communities across Spain, everyone is warmly welcome to join and take part — no matter where you come from!

In each edition:

• A different city

• Classes with teachers from different communities

• Live music from local bands

• Performances

• Extra activities designed to bring people together and, above all, have a great time.

Mission

Organize an event focused on the fast rhythms of swing, Collegiate Shag, Balboa, and Saint Louis Shag. As a traveling, non-profit organization, we want to share our passion for dance at a festival with live music and workshops for dancers of all levels.

Vision

Queremos hacer crecer la comunidad local y a la vez fomentar las relaciones entre las escenas que promueven estos bailes en las distintas ciudades de España. Nuestra visión es compartir esta iniciativa cada vez con más comunidades, ampliando la ruta del festival a través del país.

Values

We are guided by values rooted in African American jazz culture, promoting inclusion and diversity. Our priority is to create safe and welcoming spaces where everyone feels welcome, regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, age, or economic status.

Currently, communities in Barcelona, Valencia, Vigo, Zaragoza, Huesca, Castelló, Pamplona, Madrid, and Bilbao are participating in this project. We are eager to reach more cities, so if you are not on the list and would like to participate,
